For a training center, the
ability to gather together a considerable number
of terms in the form of a glossary, in order to
offer students a common language of reference,
is, as you can well imagine, an important
objective. Especially in the situation of that of
the Istituto
per lArte e il Restauro "Palazzo
Spinelli" where students come from all over
the world speaking different languages and the
impact of specialist terms is certainly not easy.
In response, since the beginning of the
Institutes history, necessary attention has
been paid to this complexity, for example by
publishing the "Glossario tecnico-artistico
per il restauratore dei dipinti," edited by
Jaqueline Ascoli, in 1981.
Today, after almost twenty
years, the Institute intervenes again by
proposing a series of specialist glossaries,
keeping in mind the radically changed context in
which we work today. Thus, the instruments and
results are decisively different. The glossary of
1981 was created almost exclusively for internal
use and substantially contains experiences
developed in Florence, however, the new work, put
together by Claudio Paolini, has much wider
ambitions, regarding dimensions, international
collaboration, supports utilized, gathering of
data and its diffusion and, above all,
todays possibility to render it as an
instrument in continuos progress. |
